What was your degree and has it been beneficial to your career path?

My degree was in Visual Communications. I was interested in computer graphics and animation, but I learned about a variety of things; such as web design, which is what I ended up getting a job in. I feel like this is a degree I can do many different things with.

Do you believe your employer sees your degree from Westwood as an added benefit in having you as an employee?

I think that to employers a degree makes the difference between 'some dink with a computer' and a trained professional. A degree from an online school proves that I have independent determination to succeed.

How did Career Development Services assist you in your career switch?

Job search and resume tips, mock interviews, helping me find job or training leads, and just generally being there for encouragement and support.

Tell us about your current position

I recently was hired as a web production assistant for a broadcasting corporation. My job is to help maintain the online content of several TV stations across the country. This job is more graphics/design-based than dealing with coding, so it's perfect for someone with my degree.

Tell us what made your Westwood Online College experience posititve for you?

Some of the instructors I had were amazing. They would work independently with students to make sure the class was a real learning experience, not just trying to meet deadlines to make the grade.

What do you feel was the most valuable benefit to you going to an online school?

I had to learn to motivate myself. There was no real classroom to work on assignments and no lectures I was expected to attend. It was up to me to determine how much I wanted to get out of the class.
