Community Involvement

Addressing the needs of the community is important. At Westwood, we support local programs that enrich the lives of our neighbors in many other ways. Westwood campuses fund and provide volunteers for projects that improve the lives and living situation of the individuals in our communities.

Chicago Loop students give back to community in a constructive way

Westwood Construction Management students at the Chicago Loop campus rolled up their sleeves and assisted Bovis Lend Lease and Rebuilding Together to renovate a local family home. Rebuilding Together is part of a national nonprofit program that provides free home repair for elderly, disabled or low income individuals. The students used their construction skills and gained invaluable hands-on experience.

Community Residences

Arlington Ballston Campus students and faculty participated in a community service project with Community Residences (CR). CR is a non-profit organization that provides services to enable individuals with a wide range of disabilities to live as independently as possible. The volunteers helped paint and do minor repairs to a home close to the campus.

People helping people

People Helping People

More than twenty-five Dallas Campus Westwood staff, faculty and students spent a Saturday recently to help repair a home owned by a 65-year-old widower, who lives alone, survives on social security and is on oxygen. Westwood partnered with the City of Dallas Housing Department in the “People Helping People” program to kick off one of three scheduled home repair projects. The project served as an important learning experience for the students. Not only were they able to practice classroom skills in a real-world situation, they completed and were certified in a “Safe Work Practice Training” course.

Denver North students help out during the holidays!

Baskets of joy

Six Westwood College Denver North Campus students joined 400 volunteers for the 23rd annual Basket of Joy Project. The Basket of Joy Project provides fruit baskets for isolated, lonely senior citizens who may otherwise be forgotten during the holidays. The project is a large collaboration between the Denver Post, Albertsons, Denver Mattress Factory Warehouse, and Volunteers of America. In two hours, the Denver North table assembled approximately 600 baskets, contributing to the 6,500 baskets that were completed that day. Congratulations to these students for their time and effort supporting the communities we serve.

Houston South Student Card Drive for Children's Center

For the second year in a row, Houston South students helped spread holiday cheer with a celebration that included Santa while they made holiday cards for the DePelchin Children’s Center. Check out the DePelchin Children's Center, and you will see why this effort is close to the hearts of the Westwood students who participate.
